Foundation: History

Mario Soler (1907 - 1991) Mario Soler (1907 - 1991)

Mario Soler Private Motorbike Museum Foundation is the culmination of a project which came to light in the first half of the past century, as a result of the work done by Mario Soler, a devoted motorbike and mechanics fan, who for many years, in his small workshop in Bassella (Alt Urgell, Lleida), with his hands and talent, recovered a great number of motorcycles becoming a reputable restorer.

Mario Soler's hard work, widely unknown for many people, to recover key pieces of motorcycling history, had his fair reward, in the inherited passion by his children Estanis and Toni (brilliant off road rider in the 70s), who kept and increased the collection.

Regrettably Mario and Toni left us but Estanis, together with his children, could materialize the dream and the work of three preceding generations by opening back in 2002, the Bassella Motorbike Museum, the first and only one exclusively dedicated to motorcycling and regarded as one of the best European Museums of their kind.

The opening in Barcelona in 2011 of the Motorbike Museum, means a step forward for the Foundation, offers Barcelona, the city with the biggest number of motorbikes per inhabitant in Europe and a long tradition in motorcycling, the Museum long time deserved by the capital of Catalunya.
